Physiotherapist and career coach Maria Jannes has found herself in the unique position of being able to find a doctor who can help with her own physical and mental health issues.
Jannas is an experienced physiotherapist who has worked with people with mental health challenges including PTSD, and also works with people dealing with anxiety and depression.
In an interview with the ABC, Jannies says she felt isolated when her GP refused to prescribe her with a specialist, which was particularly frustrating.
“I’m not used to people saying, ‘No, you don’t need a specialist.’
So, it’s a bit strange,” she said.
In her research, Jaines found that many physiotherapeutic doctors are only able to work in their area of expertise, so she has developed a series of online courses and courses on the subject. “
But I didn’t know if I would find the right specialist, so I just got on with it.”

She has also partnered with the Australian Psychological Society to develop a self-help manual for people with physical and psychological health concerns.
“There’s a real need for people to have some understanding of what physiotherapy is, and how to go about it,” she told the ABC.
“And I think that’s the way it should be.
It’s not just about prescribing pills, it should have a place in people’s lives.”
